Atlantique was commissioned by John Jacob Astor’s grandson in 1904 during the Golden Era of extraordinary architecture in Bar Harbor. Designed and built by Fred Savage and awarded National Registry status in 1992, the 14,500 square foot Tudor masterpiece, accompanied by 4,000 square feet of Carriage House and Gate House, were masterfully restored in 2000. Atlantique presides dramatically over a four-and-one-third acre pine-clad oceanfront set off by an antique tea rose garden, championship croquet field, USGA standard putting green and towering pines. Entry is through a Beatrix J. Farrand exact replica Lych Gate. From the endearing artistry of Isabell O’Neil master artist Bill Grosset and Beatrix gardens to the spectacular views of Frenchman's Bay and the Porcupine islands, the historic treasure epitomizes the compelling beauty of Maine. |
