John Prince of Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand ![]()
by John Prince (1945-)
At the 1987 Wine Country International Croquet tournament held at Sonoma-Cutrer Winery in Sonoma County, California English player Keith Wylie was called upon to adjudicate whether a ball was in or out of play. So close was the call that he requested a straight edge, a steel bar was produced and Keith promptly dropped it on the ball in question!
Keith Wylie was one the most innovative players to play the game and although sadly no longer with us he is remembered with much affection by all who knew him. This caricature depicting the above incident is a tribute to Keith who seemed somewhat bird-like to my artist's eye. He moved quickly and with precision, perhaps a Stork or Crane. He may have also been somewhat short-sighted.
