Twenty five players from all over the United States competed under Advanced International Rules for five days on two courts at the Meadowood Resort, and two courts at Sonoma-Cutrer Winery. The weather was not too hot. The Meadowood Resort courts were fast, but Sonoma-Cutrer Winery was slow and gave many players problems.

In Championship Flight, two blocks (Red and Blue) of eight played a full round-robin, plus two cross-block games, to determine the seeding of a single-elimination playoff. Only four of the eight players in each block advanced to the playoff.

In the Championship Playoff, Matt Baird upset Rory Kelley in the first round to advance to subsequent wins over Jim Butts and finally Erv Peterson.

In Red Block, Matt Baird and Jim Audas tied with 7 wins, and Baird took first by 76 net points; Audas won all his block games, but lost his two cross-block games. Martyn Selman and Mike Orgill tied with 5 wins, and Selman took third by 25 net points.

In Blue Block, Rick Sheely took first by winning all 7 his block games, and losing only 1 of his 2 cross-block games. Jim Butts and Erv Peterson tied with 6 wins, and Butts took second by 62 net points. Rory Kelley and Charlie Smith tied with 5 wins, and Kelley took fourth by 42 net points.

Parties were held at the Meadowood Resort at the opening and closing of the tournament, and at the Smith Madrone Winery and Ellery McClatchy's home during the tournament.
