Philip and Joan Croome of Portland, Oregon, USA, spent an afternoon learning to play croquet with the Maui Croquet Club.
Joan's mother, Margot Leonard, of Houston, Texas, USA, purchased An Afternoon of Croquet at a croquet auction last year, and gave it to her daughter to use on a vacation this year.
Joan has been anxious to learn to play croquet, so she can compete with her mother. Philip had played Association Croquet as a child, and was interested in trying the game again.
Dick Karr and Leo Nikora of the Maui Croquet Club meet Philip and Joan on the club's home court at Waipuilani Park in Kihei, Hawaii, USA. After a brief introduction to holding and swinging a croquet mallet, Joan and Leo played Golf Croquet against Philip and Dick. This taught Philip and Joan the order of the hoops, how to run hoops, and how to roquet other balls.

Then Philip and Joan were introduced to a four-ball break, and the croquet stroke.
Another game of Golf Croquet completed the Afternoon of Croquet.
Philip and Joan showed great potential to become good croquet players, and had a good time. The Maui Croquet Club hopes they continue to play croquet, and return to Maui again.
