Danny Huneycutt of North Carolina (ranked #3 in America) won the inaugural Pacific Cup, beating Carl Uhlman of Washington. Paul Ramm of Hawaii won the B Flight, beating Kerry Ramm of Hawaii in an all-Ramm, all-Maui final.
The first Pacific Cup was held on three courts at the Puget Sound Croquet Club in Kirkland, WA, and on two courts at Woodland Park in Seattle, WA. A strong field of twelve players in Championship Flight also included Jeff Soo of North Carolina (ranked #2 in America), and John Taves of Washington.
Patrick Sweeney of Oregon directed the tournament. Sunshiny CQ16 balls were used. Advanced Association Rules were followed. Games were two and one-half hours long.
In Championship Flight, the top six of the twelve players advanced from Block Play and were seeded into Knockout Play, with the top two seeds receiving initial byes. In B Flight, all six players advanced from Block Play, and were seeded into Knockout Play, with the top two seeds receiving initial byes. Net points broke any ties to advance from Block Play.
The weather was beautiful throughout the tournament, and the Puget Sound Croquet Club courts were in excellent condition, thanks to greens keeper Cameron Guernsey.
Leo Nikora, Bruno Amby, and Denise Reibman from the Maui Croquet Club were also in the tournament.
